Description
Exceptionally sturdy thanks to its all-metal construction, yet remarkably lightweight at just 64g – including the assembly screw. It’s the first of its kind in the world. Additional novel features include:
3 Unique Concepts:
- Palm Hold + Thumb Lock.
A grip for palm with integrated thumb rest. Finger are naturally dexterous and can conform to variety of shapes. By providing support for palm, it allowed us to reduce bulk in the front grip section. This helped to make the hand grip compact, light weight without taking away from comfort. - Pinky Arc.
A place for pinky to rest on or slide under camera, comfortably. As of now, all grips have a relatively sharp edge but not any more. - Inlaid Quick Change.
A 38mm dovetail compatible feature for quick change in tripod mounting application. It is designed to be recessed inside the walls of the baseplate. This eliminates any edges that may interfere with hand during hand held use. Moreover, it looks cleaner and very streamlined.
Other notable designs features are:
- Cradle Fit.
Baseplate is designed in a way that it hugs the camera from bottom and sides. The camera sits “in” the baseplate rather than on it. This way of mounting provides a secure assembly, more protection from elements and makes the handgrip look like its integral part of the camera not something that is added on. - All metal design.

Phenomenal
I tried multiple 3rd party grips, including the popular smallrig one, thumb grips and multiple different combinations. They were all okay, but lacking true comfort and security.
I eventually took a chance on the AGX106, and I wish I would’ve just bit the bullet and gone this route FIRST! Nothing compares to the ergonomics, security or quality of the AGX106.
It’s bloody expensive, but it’s manufactured with passion, made in Canada with tight quality control AND as with most things – you get what you pay for, and you get the absolute perfect grip with this. Just buy it.

Grip for Serious Photographers
Fitting is totally precise and nothing is blocked. Finishing is perfect, no sharp edges totally flush to body, credit to made in Canada. I got your grip also mainly to protect the bottom. So I don’t have to baby the camera.
In terms of grip handling, the stability feel is very good being a front grip(yes pinky slot works) and thumb grip. I don’t like the third party thumb grips options out there because they will get loose over time or worn out flash hot shoe, block buttons or scratch top plate etc. This camera is light so needs front and back thumb grips(not to forget also bottom plate protection). This innovation alone is worth the 10% camera price you are charging for the grip.
In terms of shooting I think I can get another stop at least, thanks to the combined grips. At high speed low light situation, you can still get another stop with good shutter button even with single handed operation. Despite IBIS, one still has to get appropriate accessories to achieve a few more stops and avoid high iso.
As a Leica user for over 35 years, I highly recommend this grip with x100vi especially if you love shooting low light at 1/4, 1/8 or 1/15s. These extra stops is what you are paying for.

Amazing Grip - Palm Hold + Thumb Lock
What an AMAZING grip and KS personalized for me by adding a wrist strap access point on the bottom for me at a very reasonable price…I just love the feel of this grip and the fact I don’t now need a thumb grip…which allows me to use an external flash! I have to also mention that the team at Awesome Grips helped me overcome the Canada Post strike…talk about AMAZING customer service. I just love my new Awesome Grips…Just order one…you won’t be disappointed!!

You forget it is an add on
The price, I assume, is what stops most people from considering or buying one of these Awesome Grips. I already had a much cheaper SmallRig grip on my X100vi that was fine but it always left me wondering where to place my thumb. Finally, after some debate and much hesitation, I decided to order the AGX106 grip. My first impression was “Wow! This is different.” Great craftsmanship. Quality materials. My fingers seemed to fall naturally in place. It was like the difference between wearing an oven mitt and a fine leather glove. The grip completely transforms and upgrades the ergonomics of the camera. It inspires confidence when held. After some use, the grip disappears and you totally forget it is an add on.
Some suggestions for improvement.
One: The orange plastic screw tightening tool will get lost too easily. It would be nice to see a way for it to be secured somewhere on the underside of the baseplate as SmallRig does.
Two: No where on the website do I see customization Options. Yet, on the side of the shipping box I see that I could have asked for the company logo to be deleted. I think it is fine as presented on the front grip but the white logo letters on the back grip is something I would like to see gone. Maybe it will fade with more use. I also would have liked a slot in the baseplate for a Peak Design strap lug. It is listed on the box under “Customizations” but was never presented to me as a possible option at time of ordering. Presumably these options would also increase the price. Maybe I missed seeing something at time of ordering but I think this additional information could be more obvious to potential buyers.
I have only had the grip on my camera for a couple of hours now but I think it will stay comfortably attached to my X100vi for many years to come. Its minimal but highly functional and thoughtful design truly supports the maxim that “You get what you pay for.”
